The Age of Software Understanding

What does it take to trust a system when failure is not an option?

This exhibit explores that question through one of humanity’s most consequential scenarios: nuclear war.

Across five stages—Mission, Design, Implement, Certify, and Impact—it follows the journey from presidential intent to the operator making a life-or-death decision.

At every stage, people must share an understanding of what a system is intended to do, what it will actually do, and whether it can be trusted.

Software Understanding makes that possible. By connecting human intent to technical evidence, it enables us to build, verify, and trust even our most complex systems—without surrendering human judgment.
